Acupuncture / Dry Needling
What is Acupuncture / Dry Needling?
The Canadian Physiotherapy Association states that acupuncture and dry needling are terms used to describe the use of needles applied through the skin, as an alternative to medication to treat injury or illness.
How Does it Work?
Acupuncture techniques, including dry needling, stimulate the release of endorphin, the body’s natural pain relieving hormones, through the insertion of needles into specific anatomical points to encourage natural healing.
What to Expect:
Dr. Strong will prepare the part of your body to receive treatment by cleaning the skin with an antiseptic. He will then use a gentle tapping motion to insert sterile, single-use needles to the affected area. The needles are as fine as a strand of hair with rounded tips, which rarely cause bleeding or discomfort.
The majority of patients describe their acupuncture treatments as relaxing. Others may experience the sensation of heat or pressure, or dizziness that dissipates when the treatment ends.
